Randy Thompson, Owner and CEO of VA Angels
Randy Thompson founded the VA Angels in 2003 which has fast become one of the largest and most active private equity investment groups in Canada with more than $38.7 million invested in 130 companies and 5 chapters in Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Winnipeg, and Phoenix.
Randy started his journey as a serial entrepreneur when in 1992, after serving for three years as chief of staff for Alberta’sminister of technology, he founded Alberta SuperNet, the province’s first internet service provider. After 4 years he was able to sell his first company and embarked on multiple ventures and partnerships including founding of Khyber Pass entertainment, a digital content distributor and publisher.
In addition to his work with VA Angels, he is currently the CEO of BGenerus.com, a company that helps not-for-profits fund raise and Chairman of Innovative Trauma Care, an early stage medical device company focused on developing and marketing point of injury solutions to address the common causes of preventable death in traumatic injury scenarios.
Pilar Portela, CEO, Climate Change Disruptors
Pilar Portela is a Senior Executive with over 20 years of experience in business operations, project management and executive roles in a variety of industries including emerging technologies, facility management, manufacturing, wholesale/retail and non profit organizations.
She has worked in strategic environments translating business drivers into actionable and measurable results. Her role as CEO of Accelerate Okanagan allowed her to connect and understand businesses in BC’s Interior and their approach to success. Currently Pilar is CEO of Climate Change Disruptors, a clean tech startup developing an aggregation platform using IoT and Big Data to measure, report and validate global climate change related data.
